Benchmarking studies

I am undertaking some benchmarking studies to try to understand how the Village of Potsdam compares to other municipalities around the state and country.  My hope is that these studies will help us better understand our current conditions and point in directions we might consider for the future.  If you would like more information about this data please feel free to contact me.

Population in the village: One of the difficulties we have as a "college town" is knowing what our full-time resident population actual is, since the census counts some students but not all students.  This has a fundamental bearing on how we make per capita benchmark studies.  This analysis attempts to better estimate our true population profile.  A similar estimate was done for the village of Canton.

Potsdam per capita property tax:  This analysis compares the per capita property tax of Potsdam to other villages in New York with populations greater than 4000.

Property tax comparison, by NYS county:  Property taxes are compared between counties in NYS.

Comparison of Canton and Potsdam:  A comparison is made of property taxes and general fund expenditures for the villages of Potsdam and Canton.

Property tax comparison, St. Lawrence County: This table shows the property tax rates in the towns and villages of St. Law. County.  The data is for 2008, and is taken from the NYS Office of Real Property Services.  In progress...
