Not all of these are great ideas, not all of the ideas are mine. The goal with this list is to stimulate ideas. Please contact me to add to the list.

 

  1. Improve appearance of Village entrance at Maple St.
  2. Install wireless internet access downtown
  3. Establish a “cultural anchor” in a renovated building
  4. Build a playground and public restroom at Ives Park
  5. Renovate substandard housing
  6. Build assisted living housing
  7. Build a senior citizen’s center
  8. Build a skateboard park
  9. Improve the beach at Sandstone Arena
  10. Replace village cars with electric cars and hydropower
  11. Build a shell building at the Potsdam Commerce Park
  12. Renovate Snell Hall for re-use potential
  13. Renovate Damon Hall for re-use potential
  14. Develop a “healthcare” zone to allow for hospital expansion
  15. Develop a re-use of the Newman Center
  16. Build a substance abuse treatment facility that frees existing space for hospital use
  17. Develop a re-use of the Liberal Arts Building
  18. Develop a re-use of Old Main
  19. Build a pedestrian bridge across the Raquette River
  20. Develop Oak Island as a park
  21. Install period street lights downtown
  22. Establish a Clarkson consulting collaborative
  23. Organize a small business incubator, including space
  24. Modernize the sewer treatment plant
  25. Build a new fire station, joint with Norwood
  26. Build new streets to open up residential housing development
  27. Renovate the Village boardroom
  28. Improve the energy efficiency of the Village Civic Center
